Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue, education, knowledge; and through humane ways.  -The Dalai Lama

Louis Prussack joined Spring Street as the Head of School in 2008. A math and science teacher and administrator for over 30 years, Louis Prussack grew up in New York City.  Prior to Friday Harbor, he has lived in Ohio, Colorado, New Mexico, Paris, Seattle, and California. He loves living here with his wife, Heather, and his two children, Caeden and Aiyana, in the safe, supportive, and dynamic community of the San Juans. A graduate of Oberlin College with a B.A. in Classics, Louis briefly attended medical school, studied mathematics at the University of Washington, and received his M.A. in Educational Leadership at Columbia University in 2007. A graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership Schools (NOLS), Louis completed both the Educator and  Instructor courses, where he honed his mountaineering and outdoor teaching skills. Since 1992, he has led students on backpacking trips in the Sierras and North Cascades each fall. More recently, he has taken students to Kolkata, Varanasi, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the Annapurna mountains on expeditions that combine deep cultural immersion and high altitude trekking. His most enriching moments continue to take place in the classroom and the field with students and faculty. He looks forward to continuing to teach in addition to his other responsibilities as Head of School.
