The goal of the Spanish program is to promote fluency through an immersive experience both in the classroom and through extended travel during May Term. After the first semester of Spanish, students are required to communicate as best as they can in Spanish. Almost all instruction and class time is in Spanish. Classes adapt to the needs of each student, especially in year three of study, empowering choice and flexibility about interests and areas of growth. While Spring Street requires three years of a second language, students are encouraged to continue with a fourth year so as to further cement their fluency. Our yearly May Term Spanish immersion program abroad allows for further development of language, cultural content, and fluency. A low-stress, supportive classroom environment encourages students to take daily risks in the language, pushing their comfort level in both written and spoken form.
