John Wheatley

Music has always been the dominant focus in John’s life. He is a songwriter, touring performer, and recording artist foremost. Prior to moving to San Juan Island, he lived in Chicago playing shows every other week and co-curated a warehouse venue for music, theater, and visual art. Subsequent to years of after-school management and leading music classes for summer camps, the “follow the child” philosophy of Montessori struck a chord in him. He pursued early childhood certification and worked as a Montessori teacher assistant for a couple of years before departing from the Midwest. As a music teacher for Spring Street, he incorporates this “follow the child” technique for older students, meeting each one on their own level. He pushes students to dig deeper into the heart and substance of what they want to accomplish.
