Head of School Announcement from Board of Trustees

January 4, 2026

Dear Spring Street School Community,

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Angela Maguire has been appointed as the long-term Head of School for Spring Street International School, effective immediately.

Since early April, Angela has led the school through a period of significant transition and transformation as Interim Head of School. During this time, she has brought steadiness, clarity, and momentum to Spring Street, guiding the faculty and staff with purpose while helping the school regain confidence and direction. Under her leadership, a renewed culture of trust, respect and collaboration has taken root among the faculty, strengthening both morale and a shared commitment to our mission.

As part of our decision making process, the Board sought broad input from the school community. Faculty support for Angela has been overwhelming, reflecting the credibility and trust she has built through her presence and leadership. We also surveyed the families of current students, who expressed strong and widespread support for Angela becoming the school’s long-term head.

In parallel, the Head of School Search Committee conducted a structured core competency workshop to assess leadership characteristics with the present and future needs of the school. Angela scored highly across the metrics developed through this process, demonstrating both the skills and qualities needed to guide Spring Street forward. In addition, Angela brings deep school-specific experience across operations, communications, development, admissions, and community engagement, as well as a longstanding understanding of what Spring Street is and means to our island community.

Taken together, Angela’s proven leadership during the past year, her strong alignment with the competencies identified by the search committee, and the clear confidence expressed by faculty and families made the Board’s decision both thoughtful and unanimous.

We are grateful for Angela’s willingness to continue serving Spring Street in this role, and we look forward to the next chapter of the school under her leadership. Please join us in congratulating Angela on her appointment as Spring Street International School’s fourth Head of School.

Dear Spring Street Community,

It is with both joy and humility that I accept this new role, serving as Spring Street International School’s fourth Head of School. I have been honored to lead the school these last nine months as Interim Head, and am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by our students, families, faculty team, and Board of Trustees.

My love for Spring Street began nearly a decade ago, while visiting San Juan Island with my family. I met a Spring Street parent who spoke of this magical school — where children not only received a world-class education, they emerged confident and passionate to be at home anywhere in the world by the time they graduate. Spring Street brought my family to this island, and we are forever grateful for that fortuitous meeting in 2017 that opened our eyes to what was possible in education for our children. There is nowhere else we would rather be than this community — a learning environment where wonder is present, where children are seen, known, listened to — and challenged to do and be their best.

It has been a privilege to be a part of this passionate and dedicated team of faculty over the past four years, and to witness a community of students, families and supporters come together to stand for Spring Street International School having a long, successful future.

Our school is a place where the wonder of education matters, where children matter, and where their connection to the outside world matters. My commitment is to support our team of faculty members to do their best work, and to provide an inspiring, empowering learning environment for our students —where they can step into their potential, take risks, make mistakes, and emerge stronger, wiser, and more confident about their ability to build a fulfilling future.

Thank you for placing your trust in me as Head of School, for allowing me to serve in this way. This is the most fulfilling work I could ever imagine doing.

All my best,
Angela
