Love is three quarters curiosity. ~Giacomo Casanova

Robert’s fascination with math and how the subject explores the patterns of nature fuels his passion for teaching. Math is the science of patterns and patterns are the foundation of our perceptions. Therefore, we are all mathematicians. A sound foundation in math often widens a student’s opportunities and deepens their understanding of phenomena reshaping the world they will inherit such as AI.

Curiosity leads Robert in many diverse directions both geographically and in his career. He was born in Montana where his family lived deep in the mountains of the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness Area.  He’s lived in remote ranger stations and cities including Atlanta, DC, and Seattle, but he now feels settled on San Juan Island where he’s lived since 2012. Robert has worked as a teacher (both college and high school), engineer, data scientist, software program manager, and a youth and family counselor. He enjoys photography, tinkering with projects around his home, and hiking with his wife Erin and their Newfoundland Koda.
