Admissions: The Process
WELCOME TO SPRING STREET!
Applying to an independent school may seem at first like a daunting process, but its actually fairly simple, as the outline below indicates.
The big question is whether there is a good fit between your child and our school. Like every school, Spring Street is much more than an academic institution. It is also a key social and emotional environment for your childs formative years. And it is a community that parents and families must feel a part of.
Our goal is to admit students who are most likely to benefit from the schools curriculum and program, and who, in turn, are most able to contribute positively to the school community. We welcome intellectually curious students who see learning as a joy and a challenge, and are willing to take significant responsibility for their own educational outcomes. We seek students who are adaptable and enthusiastic, and, most of all, are inquisitive about the world and their place in it.
Spring Street is committed to maintaining an inclusive community that welcomes students and families of all ethnic, economic, religious, and racial backgrounds. We strive to achieve a gender balance, as well as a diversity of personalities and interests. Because of our small class sizes, we are also able to support significant diversity in the learning styles of our student body.
When evaluating a student for admission, we consider:
Social skills
Math and reading skills
Language development
Small and large motor development
Behavior and work traits
Current teachers recommendation
Observations during the students visit
Parental understanding of and support for Spring Streets mission
The admission process consists of several steps:
1. Contact Jerry Riley in the Admissions Office (360 378-6393 or admissions@SpringStreet.org) to schedule a parent visit and school tour. This takes about an hour, and gives you a chance to learn about the school, and us a chance to learn about the educational context and outcomes you hope for. Tours are required of all families applying to the school.
2. Schedule a campus visit for your child. This is a half or full day visit during which the visitor attends regular classes and school activities with a student guide. This allows your child to see what life is like at Spring Street, and gives our staff a chance to meet and learn about him or her.
3. Request and complete an application packet, and return it with a $500 deposit.
4.
Request and complete a financial aid application if needed, and submit it with a check for $22 to School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) to determine appropriate levels of aid and / or scholarship.
5. Schedule an interview for your child with Roger Frost, Head of School.
6. On acceptance, arrange a tuition payment plan. Options include payment monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. All payment schedules other than annual are handled through Tuition Management Services and incur a small sign up fee. Please note that Spring Street does not accept credit cards due to transaction fees, and bills students back for credit card transaction fees deducted by TMS.
Spring Street International School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
