Testimonials – International/ESL

11th Grade Chinese Student

It is my first year in America. Before I arrived on San Juan Island, I didn't know the school is on an island, I just knew the school is far away from Seattle. I also didn't know the school campus is small; it is totally different from my high school in China. I used to live in a modern city, but now I like the life here better because it is a peaceful, safe island.

Maybe the life here is not so full of fun, but you can have more time to study or to do things that interest you. Otherwise, living on an island, you can gain more and special experiences, perfect yourself a lot, such as if you want to go to Seattle airport, you should check the ferry schedule, shuttle, and consider what may happen during the journey.

In other words, you learn how to arrange time and think about tasks comprehensively.

There is the other challenge for students, which is to learn how to live in the dorm and get along with other students. Luckily, we have two dorm parents Lisa and Derek. They take care of us perfectly and let us learn a lot about daily life.

Everyday, three of us make dinner together under our dorm parents' help. We realize that we should clean up the dorm and keep it nice because so called dorm is not only a dorm, but also a family. Actually, now I already regard the dorm as my home. Never judge a school only by its size or social influence. Although SSIS doesn't have a big name in America, the teachers here are nice and responsible.

I feel I get a high quality education here because I've learned a lot of new things here. I'm glad the student administrator chose me, I will always try my best to do everything I want and I like. I'm looking forward as SSIS grows up and becomes a known, desirable international school.
