SSIS announces the opening of its new Music and Multimedia Recording Studio
Grand Opening Open House – Thursday 1/15/2009 - 3:00 – 5:00pm
NEW FACILITY WILL BENEFIT ALL ISLAND STUDENTS
The newly completed studio is located on the campus of Spring Street International School. It will house digital musical recording tools for the creation, editing and production of musical compositions and recording of live musical performances. The facility has been built to augment the growing SSIS arts/music curriculum and to offer ALL STUDENTS on San Juan Island the opportunity to create and record live music.
The project includes plans to expand arts and humanities curriculum by offering training in the graphic arts, including photo and video editing and publication tools for the creation of in-house newsletters and a school newspaper. Multimedia tools will also support student projects in a planned expansion of speech and public speaking courses.
Musicians, film students and those interested in graphic arts, multimedia production or broadcasting can create digital materials for their chosen project or special interest, including music DVD, video, film sounds and voice-overs and radio broadcasts.
SSIS hopes to enlist the services of island artists, photographers, musicians and videographers to support programs for island students. The studio was built with strong community support and and local, professional, volunteer labor. Grants monies for the Gates Community Foundation as well as local support from the SSIS community allowed the school to procure and install professional equipment for first class creative programs.
SSIS wishes to thank all those who gave their time and expertise to supporting the studio including Christian and Tom Carter, Grisha Krivchenia, David Waldron, SSIS students, Larry Wight, staff of FHHS, Jim Nollman, Jim Bredouw, Joyce Sobel and many others who generously supported the development of the facility.
