About Us

Spring Street International School opened in the fall of 1995 in Friday Harbor, Washington to provide a rigorous academic program, tuned to the individual skill levels and interests of students in grades six through twelve.

As an independent school, the school, its teachers and administrators, are accountable directly to its students and parents. It is free to select its own goals, curricula, teachers and students in the pursuit of excellence in education.

The school seeks to promote a balance for students between an intensive academic program and experiential education, including field trips, wilderness experiences and an overseas program. We integrate rigorous academics with personalized attention and small class sizes. The student to teacher ratio averages less than 10 to 1.

Today the school is a private, non-profit, coeducational, college preparatory day school, serving grades 6-12, with an enrollment of approximately 77 students, including international students from five nations. We draw families from throughout the San Juan Islands, with students from Lopez, Shaw, and Orcas islands commuting daily by ferry, as well as day-boarders from the Puget Sound area, including Whidbey Island.

The school is renowned for developing student interest in the common good, fostering intellectual curiosity and promoting first hand understanding of global situations.
